Hill Watching - Monday, April 28th, 2008 - Describing a Billion & Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Quiet day on the hill. Senate had short day and House was not in session.

Most interesting bill introduced in the Senate:

By Mr. BARRASSO (for himself and Mr. BOND):
S. 2927. A bill to increase the supply and lower the cost of petroleum by temporarily suspending the acquisition of petroleum for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and to amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to include additional acquisition requirements for the Reserve; to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

On days that either the House or Senate are not in session, I'll add something from a statement on the floor.

Today's piece of statement comes from Senator Cornyn on March 3rd:

"Now, a friend of mine in Texas likes to remind me from time to time how much a billion is because we throw numbers around up here—a million here, a billion there. A billion seconds ago it was 1976. A billion seconds ago it was 1976. We do not even seem to flinch at a budget that Congress passed that exceeded the President’s request by $23 billion." [Page s4160]
